I think at age ten he was old enough to know. I think it was nice of you to let him has his fun and enjoy childhood. But waiting any longer probably would have caused more issues at school and between friends.

I don't recall believe in Santa at any point in my childhood, but I do remember having serious problems with Christianity around that age, so I'm sure he would've figured out soon anyway.
