university is a bubble. when you're in it it's hard to see that the outside world is completely different. professors can have an outsized opinion of their own intellect and place in the world. a revolving door of impressionable young minds helps.

once university is over, those who leave (the 99%) basically view it as just another stage in life, like high school, and move on.
