As a former AMC employee I feel like I'm supposed to hate you or something.

The worst part of my job was definitely selling the Stubs cards, the horrible horrible $12 a year loyalty cards. Ability to sell those determined promotions and job security. Is there any similar pressure to get loyalty sign ups at Regal?

All the benefits are real - You get $10 credit for every $100 you spend and you can spend that $10 credit anywhere (but it expires after 90 days), you get free upsizing, you (sometimes) get offered promotional screenings or whatever. The card costs $12 per year. Essentially if you're spending $100 a year and buy concessions it pays for itself. The problem is that by the point I had started working (August 2012), the program had been available in my theater for six months. If you didn't have the card at that point (meaning you hadn't visited an AMC theater), there's no way you were going to spend $100 in a year.

My bottom line opinion about the card is that it's a good investment to do in pairs or as a family. If you can get somebody else to use your card that's solid.
