How likely is it that we will encounter vaccine immune Covid variants necessitating new vaccine research?

Given most countries won't see complete vaccination rollout until the end of 2023 and the likely resumption of mass international travel once Western countries complete their vaccination programmes, it seems likely that the pandemic won't end this year with Western vaccination, as many hope.
