I think you might be over-simplifying this. The Fighting Sioux name was gifted to UND by the tribes in a 1969 peace pipe ceremony, with delegations and representatives from both tribes involved present. Furthermore, the most recent logo was drawn by Bennett Brien, a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. Watch any UND sporting event and compare it to an FSU one. No face paint, no war chants, no tomahawk chops, nothing of the like. But please by all means keep on painting with the stereotypical brush that all native monikers are universally offensive.

Can you elaborate on why your council refused to allow a vote on the approval of the UND Fighting Sioux nickname, despite the moniker having a majority support within the tribe and despite the Spirit Lake tribe’s voting to allow the University to keep the nickname in accordance with NCAA processes?

How about the convenient double standard that the NCAA has in looking the other way with Florida State?
