Never rely on the "professionals" in the industry. If there is anything I have learned from all of the music I have listened to, you can do it better yourself. Keep doing you. Maybe look into Joshua Radin, he has a very simple success story, almost lucky really. He just wrote music and then Zach Braff heard it and some music was on scrubs. No shit labels or any advertising, toured around the US and UK.

I'm sorry, I worded everything wrong. He has labels and probably an agency to assist his touring, but they weren't out to make money off of Joshua himself, but off of his music. Two very different things. Their are small respectable labels, most of your money will come from touring most likely. Shirts are cool though too, asking artists to design a shirt to fit your music on freelance sites lets you gain fans and interact with them.
