Fachhochschulen (University of Applied Sciences) are less scientific than universities. But you need less self organization in there.

Why do you belive that higher education in Germany is not as good as in USA? For me it seems the other way round: You need to learn more in Germany to suceed.

You will probably need to extend the your studies if you start during summer semester because not all basic introduction courses are available during summer.

It is true. Those student apartments belong to the university. But There are not as much apartments to serve every student. Often there is a waiting list which lasts 2-3 semesters. The Student Service manage the apartments.
