You'd probably be surprised at the people in your life who have PTSD from some episode in their life. It's very common and often goes undiagnosed. My father had it triggered once from cold water from an incident when he was a young man and he fell through the ice and almost drowned. The trigger didn't come for over 30 years.
PTSD is actually a protection mechanism your brain uses to teach you to avoid situations where the stress was induced. If more people understood this we'd have a better chance of identifying and treating it.
