My grandma told me about the russian rapes too. When she was 14, she and two other girls were chased by some russian soldiers. My grandma and one of the girls hid in a vineyard, but the third girl got caught and raped. And they had to stay there, on their stomachs, shaking, and trying to be quiet, until the soldiers finished raping that girl. They knew they left when the screams stopped.

Growing up in Romania in the 90s, we watched a lot of american and canadian cartoons. There were two main cartoon channels: Fox Kids and Cartoon Network.

Fox kids aired Life with Louie, Bobby's World, Kids from Room 402, What's with Andy, Casper, The adventures of Peter Pan, Inspector Gadget, and all the Marvel animated series(X-Men, Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Fantastic Four).

Cartoon Network had Tom and Jerry, Looney Toons, The Flinstones, the Jetsons, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Laboratory, the Powerpuff Girls, Cow and Chicken, I am Weasel, Ed Edd n Eddy, Courage the cowardly dog, Samurai Jack, and all the DC animated series(Batman, Superman, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited and Batman Beyond).

Anyway, back to life with Louie. It's definitely more popular and memorable than the other cartoons. To this day, my friends still quote it sometimes(- Louie, give me a Tee! - T!). I guess the reason for that is because it was more realistic than other cartoons. Louie's world seemed more like our world than the world of Ed Edd n Eddy or Johnny Bravo, or Powerpuff girls. Also, Life with Louie used normal comedy, not physical comedy like other cartoons. You can't really quote physical comedy 20 years later. And it still holds up. I watched the chess episode a month ago and it was still funny as fuck.
