Although relatively capable right now, the useful life of the CPU is going to vastly outlive the iGPU. If you really want to be serious about gaming this is something that needs to be addressed. The obvious way to get around this is external graphics.

An enclosure where you can stick an NVIDIA or AMD card inside strikes me as a very un-Intel like solution. I know how you guys like to stay in house. Your GPU architecture is now pretty good on a perf/die space basis.

So is Intel ever planning or considering a discrete GPU? You have the architecture, why not adapt it to an add-in board?

Pretty much. The CPU/GPU power ratio is still completely backwards.

I always wondered, does an orchestra really have to rehearse a piece over and over before they get it? Or are all the musicians of the caliber that they can sight read it off the paper, and nail it the first time?

My favorite part of the game is the environmental story telling. I can wander around for hours just to piece together the story of the island. I feel like I've gotten pretty deep into it....but there comes a point where I need to place absolute faith in the designer that everything was intentionally placed the way it is for a reason. I see what I believe to be a meaningful pattern repeated over and over in something strewn about the environment - I've been told I'm crazy for seeing it, that the artists were just cutting and pasting to save time while beautifying the environment.

So I guess my question is....how do I know where the line is? Did the realities of game development require that kind of shortcut where you had to cut and paste, and this or other patterns I might see can be a byproduct of that? Or was every rock, bush, tree, etc painstakingly placed one by one, meaning there's absolutely no way this pattern is present by accident?
