If you sign up via Be The Match, it depends on how old you are. I believe it's free for those 18-44, and there's a cost if you're over 45. Before people jump in with accusations of discrimination, please keep in mind that the National Marrow Donor Program (Be The Match) is a non-profit and therefore are stewards of the funding they receive. A large majority of donors are 18-44, so it makes fiscal sense to have a tiered system.

It depends on the donor and transplant center. The majority allow you to communicate anonymously the first year. After that, if both parties agree, you can exchange information. Some centers are very strict and will never allow you to know. It's something to ask when you're going through the process.
