A maximal effort in the squat, Deadlift, over head press and bench press is a good overall measurement of your strength regardless of the sport you're competing in. Strongmen do all those lifts as well as Powerlifters, with the same mindset of getting stronger with the movement. with the only real exception that strongmen have a emphasis on overhead pressing and bench press as an accessory lift, the opposite is for powerlifting.

Regardless of sport the squat and Deadlift is the cornerstone of power and strength so asking what someone's maximal lifts are isn't only required for one sport, maybe it's just a quicker way instead of asking "what's your max squat, bench, OHP and dead? "
