Isn't stigma a good thing to an extent? I mean, if you go on opioids for long enough the problem of hyperalgesia starts coming up, which often leads to increased doses, and so on. I see its usefulness in chronic pain conditions, but in non-chronic situations, wouldn't other routes be preferable?

Are there any hopes of being cured once you’re sent to a hospice or is it just to make the last days, months, years, as comfortable as possible?

Of course, it was badly worded on my part. What I mean is that opioids should always be a last resort for treatment of chronic pain. In situations where the treatment will be short, such as after surgery, it should be used, of course, but it also comes with risks that doctors shouldn’t disregard.
