Economies of scale don't necessarily apply to water usage. Rain doesn't fall solely in one area, and a home garden can be optimal to utilize runoff or local collection.

Farmers also frequently use an overload method where it's better for them to water too much than too little. Some crops do not need the amount of water they are getting. So while a better solution might be to put pressure on farmers, the more practical individual action is to self sustain.

I don't really like his response so I wanted to give my take on it. Your vote will not change the outcome of this election, but it can change the outcome of future elections.

Races don't suddenly become competitive. They gradually change over time, and every vote is a signal one way or the other. If you're in the majority then it eliminates uncertainty, and if you're the minority it lets policymakers know that you're there to be represented.

Votes also don't exist in a vacuum. By voting you demonstrate that people like you and with your interests need to be accounted for.

You're not voting for this election, but to ensure everyone who thinks like you do is accounted for in the next one.
