Try a different approach. Don't try to make something that hasn't been done before or make something better. Start with something very basic. Your own flashlight app or grocery list app. Much is learned from small beginnings. :)

I'm not OP, but I see you posted this an hour ago with no response, so I wanted to respond from what I know/think. I welcome any corrections by /u/JonCohn or others more familiar with the law.

Insurance coverage by one's employer up to this point was technically an unrequired "benefit". Different employers offer different benefit packages and employees are free to choose an employer based upon that. If her employer no longer offers that benefit, she may re-evaluate whether they should benefit (heh) from her continued employment and can choose another employer with better benefits.

Now that the ACA is in effect, employers are required (with certain exceptions) to provide some base levels of insurance, so .. while it might not be the gold package she was used to, it should be something, but I don't think she has any legal recourse to force them to offer a better package.

Edit: My understanding of it is a bit off... They're not required, but there is a mandate and if they don't meet the requirements of the mandate, they have to pay a penalty per employee.

Almost all "big businesses" that will be affected by the law are already providing employees health insurance. For affected employers that do not provide insurance, implementation of the law has been delayed until January 2015, so I don't think that is what is affecting your girlfriend.

Musician here - have done several 'for video' type live performances where you are required to wear the same outfit for dress rehearsals and performances so the video team can edit together the best shots. The audio track itself is then usually pulled from the best all around performance.
