Sacramento CA has received a few thousand refugees recently (SIVs and others). Cheaper and better weather than East Coast or Midwest. Our observation is that SIVs want to work. Their spouses and kids want to learn English and adapt. Live life. Frustrations: different culture, housing costs, translating overseas education and experience into a "real" job (full time, wages to support a family, in their field), needing a car (terrible public transportation), American bureaucracy. Single men can share apartments and expenses. However, Family is important and seems to make transition better. We have met some amazing, kind, decent, hardworking people...SIVs and people helping them...who are making the community stronger.
