I'm an MD/PhD student in bioinformatics and while it can be quite isolating, mainly due to the fact that traditional biology students (vast majority of MD/PhD students) don't know anything about what you do, it also sets you apart from your peers in a positive way. There is a tremendous amount of high dimensional clinical data being produced and a huge shortage of bioinformatics researchers who also understand medicine. I feel very good about this career's job prospects at the moment :)
