The soaked bedding got soooo old. Be freezing your ass off one second, time to bundle up, then you're drenched in sweat, strip off all the wet gear and then you're freezing again. H1N1 in 2009 was a lose lose.

I'm just glad I was a teenager because I could act like a little child the whole time and my mom was there to help me. I yelled at her a lot because I just couldn't handle feeling like that for days at a time. I couldn't imagine having to be alone!

I had the 2009 strain. I was playing junior hockey the year before and club hockey and lacrosse when it happened. The physical shape I was in is probably what helped me through it. I was bed ridden for about two weeks and virtually had to ride it out because of a missed diagnosis. I had the swollen throat problem too. I remember going to urgent care and them telling me I had strep, I got anti biotics and steroids. The steroids we're Prednisone so my immune system was weakened, this is probably what led to me actually getting sick, but I think I was sick before taking it. I felt better for a day or two while the throat swelling went away. Since I had been feeling much better I agreed to go on a weekend trip to Winona to visit some friends at a different college. Somehow overnight I relapsed and woke up feeling horrible. I remember my voice being octaves lower than James Earl Jones, I have a deep voice, but it's not normally that deep, I was having trouble breathing again. My friends drove me 2 hours north to the twin cities where I met my mom at an urgent care. Had to spend the next two weeks bed ridden at her house after that experience. The doctor I saw at the urgent Care in the cities knew I had H1N1 and basically said it was a missed diagnosis and that I was too far into the stages of the flu that I had to ride it out. One thing he mentioned was that if I ever felt trouble breathing to come back in because my lungs were at risk of filling with water. Imagine being able to play in a high level hockey game and run 17 minute 5k's to barely getting up and down the stairs. I had never heard of it almost killing someone, but I am glad you made it through, that illness was no joke, like a head cold or flu on steroids (heh).

If I get the flu yeah it happens, but the swine flu is like a more extreme version since you could easily have temps of 103-105 while your body was trying to fight the virus.

I was told they couldn't do anything when I went, they said ride it out and come in if you can't breathe so we can make sure your lungs don't fill with fluid.

Edit: they told me it was too late to take tamiflu to see any kind of benefit.
