You can ask Australia about what happens when you set up offshore refugee processing centres in other countries to discourage people from making dangerous journeys to apply for asylum onshore...

Spoiler: it doesn't work out as well as you might think, and leads to just as many, if not more, claims that human rights are being breached.

I think they run this event fully on paved roads, namely the Stuart Highway (route 87) and a small section of the Princes Highway (route 1).

These are major highways with very good quality asphalt surfaces.

That's not quite how immigration works in most countries. You can't just turn up with a skill and pay some amount of money for a visa to get in and work. You have to already have a job in the country, and your employer needs to sponsor your work visa. There are various fees payable by both the person seeking the visa, and the company sponsoring them.

For something like an H-1B visa in the US, depending on the size of the company and other variables, the total fees can vary between around $1000 and $7000. I can't speak for Germany or Japan, but the US fees are broadly similar to the fees for similar work visas in other comparable countries like Canada or Australia.

Some countries also have a general 'skilled migration' program in which you don't need to have a specific employer sponsor you into the country. They are usually a points-based system. But it's a pretty difficult bar to meet in many cases ... you need not only the specific formal qualifications the country is looking for, but also to be relatively young and have good English skills etc. The fees for such visas are again, relatively comparable (several thousand bucks).

Ah ok. I was particularly thinking of aircraft like the Diamond DA40NG, which as far as I can see from the Diamond price list, comes with a G1000 NXi as standard and is in the $600k range.

I’m just a simmer though, not a real pilot … was just curious as to how much of the cost of new planes lies in the avionics.

And Australia. And the US. Pretty much everywhere in the western world actually.
