Of course, it’s a balance, because introducing upgrading to new tech has its risks too, but isn’t as bad as falling behind in this way.

Once got hired to help fix a burning platform that had been built up over the course of 10 years by junior developers. Not blaming the developers, they had done what they could. No, this had been done without the supervision of someone experienced, simply because persons with that senior experience was considered too expensive. This was definitely a culture problem, not directly a tech problem.
