Not only that, we have people like Matthew McConaughey who are true actors, but end up taking an easier path because everybody wants to cast them as the male lead in rom-coms.
Even though he started out doing great roles, and continued to do so (Frailty, anybody?) he essentially took one amazing deal after another until he got to the point where he could pick and choose.
Cue everyone thinking he's suddenly a great actor. No, he was always a good actor, but now he gets to be a great actor.

What amuses me are people who all of a sudden think he took acting classes, or worse, think that he lucked himself into good roles.
It really makes you wonder about other actors who are at parody level because of the films they have been in for the last ten years.
This is an obscure reference, but I always remember the sad emotional resignation of Tim Allen's character in David Mamet's Redbelt, whenever I think of actors who are shoehorned into financial but not critical success.

I was so lucky to see it blind (no knowledge aside from the casting) at a film festival. I was blown away and when they announced a second showing the night afterward, gladly attended that.
When I arrived to see the majority of the same crowd from the night before (again a full house), I knew I wasn't alone in enjoying such an original modern film.

No touche, that's how you got into this mess in the first place.
