Why choose Mars over the moon? Resources?

They should. If a celebrity is all it takes to get people interested in a topic, NASA should be exploiting celebrities like there is no tomorrow.

A trip to Mars has many dangers. Which part of the trip do you think is the most dangerous?

Mars only has 38-40% the gravity of Earth. Granted that's more than the moon, but still.

Maybe if this ever takes off as a worldwide event, there could be a standard cockpit that every team must use. I'm not talking about the controls or anything else like that. Basically just an empty pod that has been proven safe and protective of the pilot. All teams must use this pod but could design the robot around it any way they wish.
