What is the biggest misconception about albinism you've found?

ChiefTyrol395 karma

The one albino girl I knew at highschool had to wear dark glasses due to light sensitivity, but she had blue eyes. Is this the case for yourself also? And, is the photophobia why you are classed as legally blind?

(Thanks for the response, and for the AMA :) )

This.

Always blew my mind that you need a licence to drive, security checks on travel, verification to access your money, but so many can breed such little thought to the fact they are bringing a tiny human into the world that they are ultimately responsible for.

Edit: holy smokes! Debate! :)

I'd like to make clear that yes, it certainly would create a dystopian future (gattaca-esque etc etc) and that legislation and enforcement would be nigh on impossible.

My point was only that people who have them should really put thought into it. They are not status symbols, a way to 'keep up' with your friends, please your parents or any other screwed up reasoning you can imagine. I just see so many examples of bad parenting and kids that only need someone to love them and listen to them.

I was lucky. I had a great family. Some kids don't get that, and it makes me fucking angry.

As someone who would do either (foster or adopt, toddler or older not a problem), I have fuck all chance because I am single. Even though my income is large enough and my lifestyle/work choices allow a lot of leisure time.

It's a shame some people do not want an older child. Why are they any less awesome? (Answer: they aren't. They are children in need of a home and a decent chance at life)
