Okay, this is just from my personal experience, not a cop or anything; but here's a list of things to do when you get pulled over:
Remove your keys from the ignition, and place them somewhere conspicuous - this signals that you are not intending to flee/ or that you have any reason to do so.
Activate your car's interior lights if it dark out at all (i.e. not middle of the day)
Place your hands on the steering wheel with your palms visible.
Do not argue or be confrontational in any way - if you have received this ticket in error, fight it in court, not on the side of the highway.
When the officer/deputy/patrolman is approaching, keep your movements to a minimum, don't make it look like you are hiding evidence or retrieving a weapon.
Make occasional eye contact.
When prompted for documents, tell the LEO where they are before you reach to get them, and do so slowly.
