Thinking of moving to Oman/Qatar or somewhere in the Middle East soon. My girlfriend and I have our CELTAs, and we've both worked in SK for 3 years.

What's the pay like in Jordan and Turkey if you have experience and a teaching certificate? Are there any websites or agencies particularly suited for finding employment in that area? What's the expat community like?

My girlfriend is primarily worried about how women will be treated. How are they treated in Jordan? Turkey?

Thanks for answering questions!

Oman sounds like the bees knees. We're into all that type of stuff. Your two cents is worth more than most, cause you've been there. My family's two cents (I'm from the States, in particular, the deep South) carries far less weight!

Cool. So the basic tesl sites are about as good as it gets. I was thinking you might know of a more specific site for jobs in the region.

My girlfriend is mainly concerned with some of the blog posts she's read concerning women being second-class citizens. I'm sure there're some ultraconservatives in every culture, but we don't want to move to a country fraught with them.

Thanks for the info. Especially about the better schools providing housing...that'll give us somewhere to start when looking for a proper gig. Do some provide airfare, as well? We'll be on the job hunt in about 4 months. Traveling South America currently!

I'm going to point my girlfriend to this thread once she's back to the apartment. She'll be happy to read up on all the opinions. She does the research, I'm more of a 'go with the flow' type. But, both Oman and Qatar sound great.

Any idea about the average salary for an experienced teacher with a certificate?
