In your defense, I always considered the accent to be 'future Russian'.

I'm told that 300 years ago English spoken by early settlers would have been difficult to understand to 20th century born Americans. Its reasonable to assume that in the 23rd century earth cultures have intermingled and mixed to the point where any accent would sound more generalized.

Yeah, good point, but I think he was adopted at age 11 or something. Plus his native tongue would be Klingon... so... This is certainly a discussion for /r/StarTrek or /r/DaystromInstitute.
