Hey, thanks for sharing your unorthodox trajectory with us!

I'm curious what some of the most meaningful and resonant video games are to you, both (1) as a "regular" person, and (2) with a specific slant towards your values, beliefs, and what you do? If possible, I'd love to know the why as well, if you're willing or able to share it.

Thanks!

What's your mindset/strategy/process when trying to create something like this? It seems so staggering!

Brilliant, thanks for the detailed response! Truly, I ask for 3 reasons:

  1. I guess that I'm a nerd for similar reasons and just absolutely love the "how" in the mechanics of this kind of thing. In a similar vein, I did a bit of animation and digital art creation (was never that great) but it was just gratifying to understand how some incredible animations and games are built.

  2. I'm a teacher and would love to consider something like this for my kids (obviously pruned WAYYYY down, though).

  3. I am married to a woman who would be over the moon if I ever put anything like this together for her. I don't know if I'm mechanically up to it, but I'll keep your inspiration (and your information) in mind for the future!

Thank you again!

Hi Shaun! First of all, I just wanted to congratulate you on what you're doing- it sounds like an amazing branch of education where there is an absolute need for interventions like yours.

Second, I would like to apologise because (while I intend to read this entire thread later) I only have a few minutes before I get my day going. So if I am repeating somebody else's post, then... whoops!

Finally, I just want to say that I have A HUGE interest in what you're doing. I'm a middle school teacher, and I try to incorporate a number of the same types of learning tools that you've literally described into my teaching as well. The big ones include story, imagery, binary opposition, humanitarian of knowledge, and- of course- play. I'm wondering if this is something that you've stumbled into just as a result of your passion, though, or if you have looked at the actually educational theory behind this? I'm currently doing my Masters of Education in his EXACT kind of thing and it falls very inline with principles of "Imaginative Education".

As I say, I'm a big believer (and growing practitioner) of these methods, so to see them out there more excites the hell out of me!

Thanks for taking the time!

I sleep terribly and I have ever since I went through chemo almost 10 years ago. Is this a thing, or is it perhaps related to the fact that my life also now has far more stress, angst, worry, etc. and it might just be a "me" problem with being able to calm and settle?

For what it's worth, I got a test for sleep apnea because I was sufficiently frustrated with my inability to sleep. When theysaw myresults, though, they almost laughed at how much that was NOT the problem. It made me feel good, I suppose, but it didn't help me diagnose anything further.

Signed,

Your new sleepless friend
