I suspect the use of the word evangelical as a name and adjective could be the subject of several Ph.D. thesis - if not already! Interestingly, the first Lutherans referred to themselves as Evangelicals during the reformation. My denomination retains this language with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

What does AP Style Book advise for use of Evangelical? As a pastor, I expected you'd use capital "e" to refer to the contemporary, politically active religious movement and reserve the lower-case "e" for that oriented toward the spreading of religious faith. However, I'm curious if your usage here is in line with the style book or is just informal... because Reddit.
