What will a successful landing on Mars bring to the table for the scientific community? How quickly would it (theoretically) make us able to solve many of our current "interstellar space" problems? Thanks for this AMA!

As a college student, NASA has always been of the greatest interest to me because of its complexity and achievements. My questions are: Where there any major complex run-ins before, during or after (the launch)? And what would you, personally, recommend students who are interested in space delve deeper or study? Any personal favorite books that helped your learning or created more curiosity? (Laws of the universe, astrophysics, etc) Thank you for taking the time in talking to all of us! :)
