What are 'wolf people'?

One of my friends (younger guy) always was like 'wolf people' he stayed on and off the reservation, I guess he made it seem like it was older tribe members that turned into animals. Like I to a wolf or deer etc. I've never heard it outside of him. Figured I would ask.

Is that what they are called skinwalkers? What do they do

Lol yes I know but that's not what we are talking about. It's like some shaman medicine man type stuff, they stalk you or something.
