I was under the impression that Ulfberht swords were well ahead of existing Viking tech and were very rare because they used crucible steel that Vikings didn't know how to make, which they probably got from trading with Asia.

As someone who, at 43, has spent the better part of 11 years putting blood, sweat, and tears on the mat, normally with guys half my age, for 5-6+ hours a week in BJJ only to be eliminated in my first match at World Masters a couple of weeks ago, I say yes, it says quite a bit.
