When caring for someone with Alzheimer’s is it better to play into their perception of the situation or to tell them what is really going on? For example, my grandmother often thinks I am my aunt. Should I just play along and pretend to be my aunt, or is there any benefit to telling her I am her granddaughter? It upsets her when we tell her the truth, so we usually stick with whatever makes the most sense to her. I am now her primary caregiver, so I am curious if it would be helpful to her to be reminded or not?
