I too was sent to an inpatient facility. I was caught using opiates and actually needed the help. The facility was a shit hole. Typical state run place, not a plush private detox facility. Loads of homeless people looking for a place to sleep and sober up etc. I saw a lot of shit in there, a lot of delusional alcoholics detoxing, seizing, and just generally in a state of psychosis. Anyway, my point is that where I live there is a sheriff's "marchman act". Basically they take you to detox and commit you because you're a danger to yourself because of your drug use. The funny thing is after about 24 hours I was fucking done with the place and demanded the nurse allow me to leave. The whole time I thought I was required by the marchman act to stay but she told me I wasn't. However, here's the catch. She told me that even though I wasn't required by law to be there, if I tried to check myself out they would be forced to say I was acting irrationally and make me stay. It was a lose lose. Anyway, I stayed and have been off opiates for over three years so I guess I needed it anyway.

Be careful, Cliven Bundy was able to escape an armed standoff with the government. I'd like to think that an unarmed protest from a group of darker skinned people would be just as successful, but I doubt it.

I'm also a social studies teacher, in Florida. Not sure it works the same way in NYC, down here the AP teachers get a bonus for each student that passes the exam. I think that regular teachers (non AP) should get a cut of the bonus because we take all the lower performing students, delinquents and esol students out of the pool of kids you have to teach. Essentially, we make it possible for you to teach only higher level kids. Is this an idea you would get behind, assuming it works the same up there?
