I've always wondered if wanting to make a transition is motivated by social ideas about men and women or more of a body disphoria. Like, if we lived in some orwelian future where men and women both had shaved heads and both wore formless jumpsuits and no make up, jewelry or any sort of gender identifying adornments, (and everyone was treated equally and called with the same pronoun) would transgender people still want to transition? Or would eliminating gender differences in society change how transgender people feel about themselves and identify? Interested in your thoughts!
