Meetups here are a sausage fest. There are like 5 in my area and they are all centered around some IT related subject.

As far as my faith, I was born into a very strong Christian household. My parents are active in church. My dad has been the FCA huddle leader at the high school for as long as I can remember.

Do you think you would have been a christian had your parents been atheists ? If no, do you think your christianity is a choice or just what is expected of you ?

I've always felt like my story was all a part of God's plan. It was the middle of college when I started being intentional with my faith.

I felt the exact same way, grew up catholic, went through all the motions, got my first communion, confirmation, etc. For me it all turned around as I got older. In a catholic church there is a thing called a 'Sanctuary lamp', when you start the process towards confirmation you get to visit church a few times with you school class and during one of these the priest explained the Sanctuary lamp indicates the presence of god in the church. My autistic brain interpreted it as being a 'god detector' and I couldn't stop trying to figure out how it worked. Is there some kind of material that changes if god is present and if so how do you know that it does ? Is there just some button inside it at an unreachable place and do they pray to god to keep it pressed ? Totally blew my mind for a few weeks, until we showed up at church a little early and caught the priest lighting the candle in it. It was a total scam. That right there ended it for me.

I do miss the comfort of feeling everything is going according to plan and everything will work out in the end. Life is more difficult without that faith but I feel it's worth it.

Don’t you think it’s ridiculous that a country as small as ours is the 2nd biggest exporter of agricultural goods in the world ? Shouldn’t we acknowledge that we just have too many farmers in too small a space ? Why not just close 80% of Dutch farms ? The remaining 20% can run a business with fewer restrictions and the farmland we no longer need can be given back to nature (which can also partially be used for recreation) or used to solve the housing crisis.

Even if you test positive, the chances of a false positive are a lot higher than you having HIV, standard procedure is to do another test.
