I think its because you can charge the patient for the extra surgeries performed. Heard a similar case on reddit where a guy got all his teeth pulled because of the same reason.

I mean the other guy who replied to you just posted a case where that isnt true. Relevant quote:

"The jury heard that Paterson regularly “miscoded” procedures, charging for more expensive treatment. He was accused of carrying out the often pointless surgery for “obscure motives”, which may have included a desire to earn extra money."

So what youre saying isnt actually true. Doctors can charge for more expensive treatments, which can indirectly benefit them. Depends on how the place pays the doctor. Also, do we even know he works at a hospital? This specific doctor might be running his own practice.
