Just want to say how sorry I am about that. This happened to both my father, and his father. Luckily my father woke up mid-surgery and was put back out so it wasn't for long, but my grandfather was awake during a 2 hour complex eye surgery and he was never the same since it happened. :(

Also, when I had to have a surgery because of the history I was petrified the same was going to happen to me. I spoke in depth with the anesthesiologist about it who told me that I was at one of the best hospitals in the world, and that it wouldn't happen because an alarm would go off if my heart rate / bp significantly changed which would be an indicator I was feeling something. That's really interesting how there was an obvious change in your HR/BP being so high but it was brushed off. Yikes.

Lauren- I just watched Louis Theroux's docs this weekend ("Most Hated Family in America" / "MHFIA in Crisis). First, I want to tell you what an amazing person you are for finding the strength to get out. The whole time I was practically yelling at the screen "JUST LEAVE! HOW DO YOU NOT SEE WHAT IS TRULY GOING ON?!" but when I thought about it I cannot imagine being in the position, knowing that if I walk out the door I will most likely NEVER see or hear from my family again. I can't imagine how scary and lonely that is, and I don't know what I would do in that situation. You're amazing. Questions:

1) Do members of WBC TRULY believe in what they preach? I think for the most part they do, however it just seems so publicity driven and hypocritical (like Shirley condemning people who have children out of wedlock to hell...when she herself did). Is this 100% truly, not an act?

2) Recently several key members of your generation have left. Do you think WBC's days are coming to an end? If so, what will do them in? I know Megan said she left the church after a Twitter conversation with a Jewish man made her re-evaluate things, and am honestly surprised internet access isn't restricted or heavily monitored due to the possibility of things like this happening.

3) How does the church feel when the media comes in? I'm surprised at the amount of exposure they get and how willing they are to let film crews in. Do they talk terribly about them when they leave? (I know they will tell them to their faces they are going to hell). Is the group prepped on what to say /how to act when the media is involved?

4) Does anyone on the inside realize they are in a cult?

5) I saw Fred Phelps give an interview and he mentioned, despite being in his 80's, he does not think he will ever die. Do other members believe this to be true? Do you think his death will effect the beliefs of the church or possibly disband them? If not, who do you think will take over as the head?

6) You are not a member of the Phelps family. Was this hard? Were you accepted? Treated differently? Do you think your parents are mentally unstable due to the fact they left a seemingly normal and brought themselves and children into such a controversial environment? Thank you! I wish you nothing but the best.

You absolutely should- there is no harm in speaking with a lawyer (most consults are free). It amazes me how many people sue for the dumbest shit, but amazes me even more how many people who deserve the world and more, don't sue. You my dear, are one of those who deserve the world :)
