I loved summit day! 6h of climbing in the dark, whilst singing songs. I taught my guides a few Queen songs and they taught me some Swahili songs.
The summit was phenomenal, spent the last 30 minutes racing to the top, trying to beat the sunrise. Got the most amazing photos of the sun rising over the plains of Kenya and Tanzania, whilst standing in the snow.
Drank a Kilimanjaro beer on the summit (so worth carrying it for 6 days), and then I was so high on life and adrenaline, I raced down the loose scree, taking time to stop and climb some rock outcrops.
Yes it's a 15hr day by the time you get to camp at 1500hrs after a midnight start, but the exhaustion gives you great appreciation, a ravenous appetite once you decend below 4000m, and one of the best and deepest sleeps of your life.
