Unfortunately, you missed out on the Good Old Times™ of working in a theater. 20 years ago, you actually had to build the print from 4 or 5 reels of film and every film had to be viewed before showing. That meant every Thursday at AMC was party night. Every staff member could show up and bring a friend or two. Showings were always private and after hours, so alcohol was free flowing. Good times...
The down side was that if a really terrible movie showed up, someone had to draw the short straw and watch it. Usually alone.

So... it was me that was Picard's ancestor right? You can tell me. It's cool.

Yep. Build flaws or print flaws suck. It could be missed registration or print scratches.
Also in the 80's and 90's there were a lot of weird studio deals where in order to get the week's blockbuster movie you had to show a crappy independent film that nobody ever heard of. Often this led to a projectionist having to build a film, watch it himself, and then show it once during the week... often to an empty theater just to fulfill the agreement.

To be fair... most places I've worked, secretaries do more managing than managers.
