If automation moves to the point where sweat shops are no longer needed for the labor intensive goods produced in developing countries, do the people of developing countries have a real alternative to becoming serfs?

There's definitely going to be positive developments from technology, however, I don't see how the benefits from said better technology aren't captured by producers and used as leverage against workers to lower wages or employee levels. I used to think that certain industries were completely safe from being taken over by automation(teaching, police, doctors) but now I'm skeptical.

I feel ya on this one, it could get pretty scary before we know it. I really don't see the utopia mindset amongst those that control the cash and the means of production so someting needs to be figured out/a stand has to be made.
