Philosophically sure, but apple goes waaaay too far on this IMO. I think they dismiss the value of the clear context that buttons provide. If I don't know how to do something on an apple device, I usually have to ask someone who already knows the secret touch to do.

I won't downvote, but I will say that the increase in diagnoses is generally attributed to the relaxation of the diagnostic criteria. Easier to diagnose = epidemic.
