So would someone pre transition still be considered to have a mental disorder? Because things like ADD can be used to disqualify someone from serving

As a medical professional doesn't this seem insane to you? I'm no expert, but taking someone who is suicidal, isolating them, taking away basic utensils, it seems a bit much to me. I get not letting them have steak knives, but maybe a flimsy plastic spork and singe dignity might help.

That sucks, at least you tried I guess. But not even a book? At a certain point someone like you should be able to somehow jump the chain of command and make reasonable changes. Not even a book.

But wouldn't treatment need to be completed before enlistment? I personally had to jump through hoops on my ship date to boot because my recruiter never got my medical records to MEPS in time and they wouldn't let me go without proof all prior injuries and issues were finished being treated. In my case it was a shoulder injury so a little easier to answer but still disqualifying if it wasn't treated prior.
