Not a law firm, but my father-in-law owns an architectural firm. He has made a concerted effort to keep the work week for staff to 40 hours unless you have a deadline. Then its usually one or two long nights, so rarely ever over 50 hours a week. People love it, but he is constantly losing good architects to higher paying firms. The few we've talked to later complain about the hours at their new firm, but they get trapped by the salary. Basically, he doesn't have a real "rock star" architect so his firm has tended to smaller projects. It's hurt his firm overall but he is a nice guy who didn't even take a salary during the downturn.
