I can tell you, as a consumer, that I absolutely hate free2play. I rather spend $10-15 a month and be on a level playing field with other players than, lets say, having to spend X amount of cash (without time investment) to be good as Richie Rich with all perks and equipment purchased.
That's why WoW (which, admittedly, I haven't played in a while) works for me. I know that with my subscription, I'm paying for quality content and an even share of the world, like everyone else.
