They won't change their minds. They are surely attached to her as a family does. They are also pissed she left I'm sure. Really little kids are quick to forget who their parents are if they don't see them for a long time. I live and work in Japan and some of my co-workers' families don't even live with them. They go home only a few times a year. I recently heard a one of the kids didn't know that was their Dad that was home. They thought it was a guest. After four years of university that kid is going to have moved on and forgot her Mom or not going to want to leave the situation she is in because it feels normal and those people (wrong or right) are the only family she's ever had. If she wants her kid it's now or never. If she can get her later she better be ready for some therapy sessions for her as it's going to fuck her world up. Sadly mental health treatment is stigmatized in Asia so she most likely won't get it.

I'm not blaming anyone here as the NK situation is a fucked one. I'm just bringing some reality to the conversation.

It's going to be more difficult for her because the child is a Chinese Citizen born to a Chinese parent. Chinese courts notoriously side with Chinese regardless of the case. That child isn't going anywhere and I think the going to university mention is also to save face knowing she is never going to see that kid again.

Me too, but I also fear people harming her or treating her badly because she is multiracial. She will most likely be treated like a novelty here(Japan) which gets old fast. Others might not like her because she is not full Japanese and not give her the same chances they would somebody that is full Japanese.

I worry about that every day, but I hope in the next 20 years things improve here. She is such an amazing girl and happy spirited. It will gut me when some fuck breaks that. It will be feet first through a wood chipper for them.(I might be joking)

I think the fact he was taking her out of town without her consent says she was in a fucked up situation. Why would he do that with a complete stranger?
