There is actually plenty of literature out there about WWII that deals with Japan in the Dutch East Indies, it is taught extensively in Australian high school modern history, but mostly from an Australian prisoner perspective.

As someone who has lived and studied in both Australia and Europe, I find that European history overlooks "Colonial History" as the current PC trend is just to say that the colonial period was bad and lets not discuss what actually happen.

I have visited indonesia and there is so much "Dutch" history there - there is so much to learn if you are interested.

In a place like Albania, you may have moved overseas and left family members etc there who you support by sending back wages. So you may not be in the country, you and your loved ones are still directly affected by the policies of different governments.
