There's a lot of evidence that our facial expressions actually cause emotion, they're not always just resultant. For example, if you are instructed to repeat a word for a few minutes with a forced smile, and the same with a forced frown, for the next while you will have a more positive disposition towards the word you were saying with the smile.

Banding your jaw shut would have been akin to clenching your teeth, a very well-known sign of anger. Maybe this explains the interesting, possibly unwarranted anger you felt.

It's times like these that I feel sad that the phrase "you only live once" has been so crushingly sullied.
