What tests were done to diagnose the condition when you were a kid? Is this something that would ordinarily be found in someone if you’re not specifically looking for it?

There is a lot of migration within Latin America. There are millions of Venezuelans living throughout South America now as refugees. There are Hondurans in El Salvador (and vice versa). But economic opportunities in Central America are not very good, and violence is a problem throughout Central America. And given the economic and family ties between the US and Central America it just makes a lot more sense for people to come here (it’s a lot easier for a Salvadoran to get decent work in the US than it is in Mexico).

I think it was seen as pandering to one particular group when there needs to be a comprehensive policy that applies to everyone.

We would never end up with the entire population of Mexico, Central America or South America in the US because, believe it or not, the vast majority of the population of these countries do not want to live in the US. There are certainly a bunch or people who do, and there is a larger minority who would like the opportunity to come temporarily to the US. Ironically many people who'd like to come for a short period of time end up staying due to our strict immigration policies since they are afraid that they may never be able to come back in the future once they've left.

Fellow film person here - I haven’t even updated my resume in about 22 years. Been working consistently in all that time.
