A buddy of mine worked at a petrochemical plant where operators had to manually scrape off a grate inside a process pipe fairly frequently, which was a nasty job, so an engineer designed a device to push a big piston into the pipe and do the job automatically.

The first time they tested the device there was too much resistance, so instead of the piston getting pushed into the pipe, the piston stayed put and the whole motor/actuator/housing mechanism shoved itself into a wall.

There is a simple internet game named "QWOP" where the player must make an athlete run by individually "flexing" the thigh and calf muscles using the Q-W-O-P keyboard keys. It has become a bit of a running joke due to how incredibly awkward it is.

Would you care to comment on the game designer's approach to human leg movement?

I love this.

There is no mathematical critique necessary when the modeler has obviously never even seen what he is tasked to model.

QWOP is like a lazy student who doesn't even read his homework and writes "x=7", but he wasn't even supposed to solve for "x" and also it's Geography class.

You just gave me fond memories of the morning after wild parties with good friends, where we all wake up on the couches and just hanging out and eating breakfast hung-over is almost better than the party.

Can you blame them?

I know some Detroiters with a real chip on their shoulder, always reminding people how much progress has been made and being very critical of outsiders that point out the abandoned parts.
But that's still the most unique thing about the city, right? Nowhere else in the Western World has a city been built up so much then abandoned on such a large scale. Of course that's what visitors take away with them!
