Ragnar (the MC) is said to have been born between 740-780, the show puts him at 764. One of the antagonists, King Eckbert of Wessex, England reigned from 802-839. Ragnar was executed by King Ælla sometime around 845. So short answer, yeah pretty much.

the necessity of capital punishment is not dogma nor was it an absolute underlying truth of the faith before V2, to my knowledge. i could see if it was changing spiritual tradition but the Church’s political endorsements have always been somewhat fluid.
